  • Celly Space's 2D MMS Coupons Are a Cul-de-Sac

Is it me, Simon, or is there something that will prevent Celly-Skycore growth?

The idea is pretty simple but quite complicated in implementation:

    1) Send Coupons (other info) as 2D barcodes by MMS,

    2) Redeem barcodes through smartphones with camera (and 3G connection?).

    Question: Where will it breakdown?

Answer: Almost everywhere. Although US young adults are open to mobile shopping, and iPhones and gPhones do make it somewhat easier to browse the Internet (one can also use netbooks, like I do), at the end of the day MMS is an old news that also needs configuring.

What about redemption? Photographing screens and recognizing may work with higher end phones but 3G connection is flaky at best.

The end result? Developers swim in their pride, businesses stay away or lose money, customers swear at having problems.
