Continuing from the last post. Another thing found on my computer.
It’s a paper from Sun about their servers’ eco properties. Those who use Sun do good for themselves and environment.

You know, it is from my Soviet legacy: I collect, collect, collect. Some of it is crap, some can be useful for someone. I decided to put it all online.
Here a chunk of today:

It’s from Bango and it’s a review of different mobile web analytics.
It is hard to start New Year in Russia. We have 10 day holiday and tonight is the last of them — so call Old New Year, a New Year celebrated by old calendar. It falls on the 13-14th of January — the same way Russian Orthodox Christmas falls on th 6-7th instead of 24-25th of December.
So… Happy New Year to those, who I have missed!

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the largest mobile operator in Russia, announces that Standard & Poor, International Rating Agency, has confirmed a long-term credit rating of MTS to be on “BB” level.

But what is its suffering from the crisis, I wonder?
So it has been a while after I returned from the US where I went to a conference on Ancillary Revenue and Frequent Flier Programs / Loyalty organized by Airline Information. I enjoyed the conference not the least because it was in LA and it was very warm. (I am stationed in Siberia and we always have snow and bears who steal ice cream from children.)
My impressions of the crowd at the conference are mixed. Of course, it was my first conference so I don’t know what to make of them. But many of the people there seem to be not that, shall I say, entrepreneurial as I would like them to be. Once again, I was reminded of mobile operators — big, bureaucratic, interested in the “service” not in people or making money.
On the other hand, there were many very entrepreneurial people which I hang out with. We bonded.
Overall, not much selling, but a lot of impressions, thinking, and contacts.
I came there with ArrivedOK and I duly recommend you use it. It is not free as it used to be, but it is fun and cheaper than what you would spend on SMS.

Apart from the conference, I have also seen TripIt guys. They seem to be working very hard. Nice people reminding me of my student days. But definitely a good vibe. I wish them all the best and hope we will do more together.
I have also had a nice meeting with PayTel, and may be we will do a USSD payment system in Africa for non-profits.
And… I met with one of the US operators. We are planning to have US presence with Global USSD soon.
I am just generating ideas. But some also work! Like the one I wrote about in my previous posts. The previous post was the form… or you secret gate to mobile screens of anyone on GSM. Anonymous access. Interesting? Huge power! But it is totally legal too. Do you want to try? Then you have to write what you can do with it as a response to this post. Then I will send you the code. The codes will be changed frequently so it does not make any sense to share them with other people. Just enjoy yourself — I will be updating you on upcoming changes of password.
Network Idea. A network where the goal is to connect to as many people as possible so that you can make money from advertising to them.
I know. Too many ideas. Well, what can I do?
Here is another one. Free messaging using USSD flash. But with ads on the end. And it is global and to the cell phone.
For some things like App ads it can be very good. Especially when targeted.
I will set up a demo. Stand by.
Peter reports from Pakistan:
There are 5 operators and not all of them have USSD 2.0
Isn’t it kinda cool — USSD 2.0?
I think Pakistan should get an upgrade. And who has the best terms? Eyeline.
OK, new thought of a retired economist. All these big social networks making little to no money — may be Anderson right in the sense that money is not important. It is not the economy of money. It is (my beloved as judged by my PhD thesis) non-monetary economy… Have to think more about it. Money does not matter… Well, it matters but corporations creating social networks are like… universities! Like science labs. Like military. Like a lot of the government. It just cannot make money and should live either off some body else’s endowment or direct subsidies. Hmmm…
Hey Guys,
I am continuing with the last post. Today Eyeline finished an app which can do what I wrote about in the previous post. Well, there needs to be some work done but if you are interested in testing, i.e. receiving a USSD flash on you screen with my text, say Hello From Vanya, let me know! You can send me you number at {my last name}i@yahoo.com, where my last name is komarov.
See ya around.
p.s. By the way, I am meeting some cool people who can report some pretty cool stuff soon. I will be calling the guy, since he is not interested in having his name all around the Internet, Peter.

Will USSD stay in the future LTE (4G) networks?

Absolutely! All legacy stuff will be supported through association with GSM.
